Crown Lifting

Crown lifting involves the removal of the lowest branches and limbs from the tree's crown, raising the crown’s overall height to give a uniform or specified distance from the lowest branches to ground level.

Crown lifting is usually performed to provide access for vehicles, pedestrians, building development or to allow more light to penetrate through the lower part of the tree.

After the lowest branches are removed, the existing crown should remain a minimum of two-thirds of the total height of the tree. For vehicular access it is recommended the crown should be lifted to approximately 5 metres from ground level and for pedestrian access 2.5 metres.
